Libraries are a great place to work. It's a dynamic place. Something different everyday. Being a part of a community, helping people and seeing their gratitude for the time you've spent with them. People express their thanks in many ways and we certainly appreciate it. A smile, a wave, a bunch of flowers ... and then there's this ...

Mmmmmmmmmmm ........ caaaaaaaaaaaake

It warms the heart, wards off the hunger and ignites a spark of creativity in some:

There once was a guy named Peter,
who was one heck of a geezer.
He sat in his chair,
saying, "'Tis only fair,
that I eat the whole sponge cake."

Okay, needs a bit of tweaking ...

There once was a guy named Peter,
who was one heck of a geezer.
He sat in his chair,
saying, "'Tis only fair,
that I am a champion cake eater."

.... almost there .....

There once was a bloke called Peter
Who was a very big eater
He ate all the cake
Which was a mistake
Coz it didn't make him any sweeter

... that's it!

Weaving 746.14

While the TV series "The Librarians" may have us look like we need to take up basket weaving, a very successful weaving program has finished at Aldinga.

Three weaving workshops hosted by local indigenous elders were held in the Community Room as part of the Southern Indigenous Weavers project.

The Mayor's Christmas Tree is now at
Aldinga Library.

Gifts may be donated until Friday 14 December.

Isn't the tree as pretty as a picture?

Here's a great idea!

A digital picture frame.

What would a library use this for? How about slideshows of:
  • events held throughout the year and forthcoming events
  • recently received stock
  • artists' work exhibited in the Community Room
  • a photo log of pictures previously displayed in the eco-collection
  • staff picks
  • local history - places to visit
Have your say via the poll posted on this blog.

Hand up the staff member who, on noting a borrower had an overdue item, asked her if she would like "Life Expectancy" extended????

Ah, it's good to see necromancy isn't dead yet.

Minibeasts assaulted the Aldinga & Willunga Libraries during the school holidays. Who knew so much fun could be had with a special mix of flour, water and newspaper strips?

What about a bucket of beads and some wire? Beaded critters went wild at Willunga. Bees with scary stingers and rainbow dragonflies fluttered by.

Hey, there's something fishy happening in the children's area .... they moved everything round and I don't know where to find things.

Thought I saw you floundering about. Have you seen the new shelving? It went up without a hitch.

Yeah, it looks like Jack is perched on the top shelf. Doesn't surprise me though, he's a bit of a flake.

You reckon it will lure more kids in?

Like a beacon.

I'm waiting with bated breath for the next change in this library.

Hey, they might be due for a seachange.
