Herbs & Succulents



Come a learn about herbs and succulents! Lorraine Thompson from hillside Herbs at McLaren Vale will be sharing a wealth of information about these plants.

Join the Friends of the Willunga and Aldinga Libraries at the Willunga Hub on Friday 12 March from 1.30 pm. Plants are available on the day and afternoon tea will be provided.

Library Lovers Week 8 - 14 February

Valentine's Day is Sunday 14 February and libraries are celebrating it all week. We have renamed it Library Lovers Week.

Blind dates are available again this year. You may take home a bit of action and adventure, historical fiction, a saga, science fiction, a memoir, armchair travels, a western, teenage fiction or even a bit of romance. Go on, be daring and take a blind date home and let us know all about it.


If you like a bit of romance then enter the Romantic Reading Challenge. Just read a book that you consider is romantic, find it on the library catalogue and review it online using LibraryThing. Register your details on the Romantic Reading Challenge site to enter the draw to win a $80 voucher for a dinner for two at the White Dove Restaurant.

Read on the wild side!


Are you ready to Read on the Wild Side? Yes? Then become a member of the Summer Reading Club.

The Club is from Saturday 5 December 2009 - Friday 12 February 2010. The Club is open to children aged up to 16 years. Children must be a member of the City of Onkaparinga Libraries to register.

Children may register online or visit a library and staff will assist with the registration. A reading record may be completed either online or on a sheet available at the libraries.

Why be a part of the Summer Reading Club?
  • it's fun
  • prizes for every 3rd, 6th and 10th book read
  • random prize draws
  • there are different activity sheets each week - available in the libraries and online
  • write and read book reviews online
  • receive 10 points per item borrowed - double points on Fridays!
  • receive 100 points for writing book reviews

Points? Points are for the special auction held after the school holidays. Points will be used to bid for items in the auction. There are lucky dips for children under the age of 5. The auction will be at the Arts Centre, Port Noarlunga on Sunday 28 February 2010 from 12 noon.

Participants who read at least 10 books will be entered into a state-wide prize draw too.

Mayor's Christmas Tree


The Mayor's Christmas Tree will be in the Aldinga Library again this year. From 30 November - 11 December donations of gifts may be left under the tree.

Gifts are not required to be wrapped. Anglicare and the Salvation Army will be distributing the gifts.

Where the wild things are!

Do you remember travelling with Max to the land where the wild things are? Did you gnash your terrible teeth and roar your terrible roar? This wonderful children's classic by Maurice Sendak will now be released as a movie.

Tickets for a pre-release movie screening are available from all City of Onkaparinga Libraries for $9.50. The preview is scheduled for Wednesday 2 December 2009 at 7 pm. Wallis Cinemas, Noarlunga Centre, David Witton Drive, Noarlunga.

Craft Demonstration



The Friends of Willunga and Aldinga Libraries invite you to a quilting and craft demonstration. Karen Bennet from "The Sewing Sanctuary" at Snapper Point will use fabric, buttons and beads to create small Christmas presents and decorations.

Libraries that deliver

Houston Public Library delivers to your door .... well, your car door. This initiative is a result of "parking challenged" libraries.

Library patrons are able to reserve items via an on-line catalogue and are then notified when they are ready for collection. Here's the twist, patrons call the library and provide a description of their cars and their borrower details. Staff collect the requested items and deliver to the patron waiting in their car.
